HARC Autumn, November 2026
The club newsletter, edited by Rob G3BBB. 17 pages, with contributions from Jason M7EYH, Nigel M9NGL and Rob.
In this issue
- Editorial. Rob reflects on a busy year from the spring rally to the autumn one, and on the Brickworks presentation at the October meeting. He encourages Foundation and newer licensees to try the Brickworks tasks (a worksheet is included) and makes the case for “self training” before asking for help. Also: why QRP is worth the effort, growing a MeshCore mesh around the club, and a lesson in filtering from the TinyDX at CHOTA.
- Saturday workshops. The chapel has given the go-ahead for a trial of Saturday workshops, with tea, coffee and dog rolls. The first is on 21 November, 10:00 to 13:00.
- Club merchandise. Thanks for supporting the new brass pin badge and embroidered sew-on badge, with a note on costs if there’s interest in a second batch.
- DX from the Naughty Boy Corner. Jason M7EYH takes a TinyDX, ten metres of wire and a blue chair out on FT8. No completed QSOs, but PSK Reporter showed G0HRC heard across Europe, North America and beyond.
- Diary 2026, nets and local repeaters. The year’s meetings and events, the weekly nets and the North Devon repeaters. These are also on our events page.
- Cheap 3D printed 40m loading coil. Rob builds a K6ARK coil design to put a discreet 40m vertical on a 7m pole for around £6.
- CHOTA 26. 47 contacts, including 9 churches, from the chapel on 12 September. The furthest was 6,161 miles. Bacon rolls courtesy of the chapel ladies.
- POTA at Roadford. Jim, Richard, Alastair, Nigel and Basil activated Roadford Lakes, with bands packed with POTA and JOTA stations.
- ATAS-120A manual control. Nigel M9NGL builds a manual tuning box for the Yaesu ATAS-120A so it can be used with non-Yaesu rigs.
- Holsworthy Autumn Rally. Stormy weather kept some traders and visitors away on 25 October, but Nigel made the day a success.
- Quick start guide to CW POTA. A friendly walk-through of a POTA CW exchange for hunters who are new to CW.
- Welcome to new member Mark G6BNB.
